蘭葉春葳蕤，
桂華秋皎潔。
欣欣此生意，
自爾爲佳節。
誰知林棲者，
聞風坐相悅。
草木有本心，
何求美人折。

The thoroughwort flourishes in spring,
The osmanthus blooms in autumn.
Each takes delight in its own prime,
Each joys when its season does come.
They have no idea that wood-dwellers
To their sweet smell should so succumb.
Plants and trees have their own ways and
Seek not Beauty's bouquet to become.
